Geek though I am, I haven't been able to set up a network that allows our Vista laptop computer and our XP desktop computer to transfer files to one another. It should be a trivial thing to do, but no, nothing from Microsoft is trivial. So, . . .
A couple days ago, I was fiddling around with something called LogMeIn, a free "remote access" service that allows you to use one computer to control another. It works simply and well, but it doesn't allow "drag and drop" file transfers between the two computers. If you want that feature, you need to upgrade to the "Pro" version, which retails for $70. I don't want it that badly. But as I was looking at the order form, I saw there was a space to enter a discount coupon code. "Well," I says to myself, I says, "I wonder what Google would make of 'logmein discount coupon code'." So I ask Google, and in a moment I've got a code that cuts the price of LogMeIn in half. For $70, I'll live without it; for $35, I'm in.
