Orange County, Texas

On the radio this morning I heard a newscaster refer to Orange County, Texas. "Texas?," I says to myself, I says, "Texas? Orange County is in California. Hmmm. I wonder if there's an Orange County in every state."

Nope. Not even close. In fact, an exhaustive search (of 2 sites) yields the conclusion that there isn't any place name that's found in all 50 states. The most common names for cities and towns appear to be:
  • Riverside (46 states),
  • Centerville (45),
  • Fairview (43),
  • Franklin (42),
  • Midway (40),
  • Fairfield (39),
  • Pleasant Valley (39),
  • Troy (39), --that's TROY!--
  • Liberty (38), and
  • Union (38).
The most common names for counties are:
  • Washington (31),
  • Jefferson (28),
  • Franklin (26),
  • Jackson (25),
  • Lincoln (24),
  • Madison (20),
  • Clay (20),
  • Union (18),
  • Montgomery (18).
You're welcome.
