Geneva? What's in Geneva?

Darned if I know. It's on our itinerary at the moment because I think we might need a break in the train ride from Paris to Cinque Terrre (specifically, La Spezia). A direct ride lasts somewhere between 10 1/2 and 13 1/2 hours, assuming everything runs on schedule, and it would probably drive me crazy, so I came up with this layover. Paris to Geneva would be about 3 1/2 hours; next day, we could do Geneva to La Spezia, which is about 8 hours. I'm not at all sure this a good way plan: That 8 hours from Geneva to La Spezia isn't a whole lot shorter than the 10 1/2 hours that it would take to go from Paris to La Spezia direct. Maybe (probably?) we'll just bite the bullet and do the whole 10 1/2 hours at once.

Your mission, Jim, should you choose to accept it, is to find an interesting place about 5 or 6 hours by train from both Paris and La Spezia.
