I went to the Dell web site the other day to put together a computer system for my sister-in-law. I was about to click "Buy your system now!" when I said, what the heck. I think I'll "chat" with a Dell sales person just to make sure there aren't some savings that I'm missing out on. Our chat, condensed, went like this:
Rafe: Hi, I'm Rafe. How can I help you
Dan: Hi, Rafe. Dan here. Will you look at the system I put together and tell me if I missed out on any savings?
Rafe: Sure, Dan. Will you give me a minute or two?
Dan: Take your time.
Rafe: Good news, Dan. I found some unadvertised specials:
- Free shipping
- An extra year of in-home warranty.
- Another $20 off.
I was helping Mary Ellen design and print a postcard for the show she has every year at our house. As we were submitting the job on line to the printer, we were asked if we had a discount/promotion code. Of course we didn't. And of course I opened another browser window and search for "printplace.com discount promotion code". Bingo! "BOO" saved us the entire cost of shipping.
The moral: Ask for a discount. And if there's no one to ask, search for one.
