The best seat in the house

That would be A109 if you happen to be in the Coolidge Auditorium of the Library of Congress and if a terrific pianist happens to be performing. Last night, said terrific pianist (along with a cellist and violinist) played Mendelssohn. And I happened to be ensconced in A109.

At Lincoln Center, that seat -- 12 feet from the cellist, 15 feet from the pianist with a perfect view of the pianist's hands on the keyboard -- would have cost a hundred dollars. At the LOC, it was free.

And the pianist -- Ron Regev -- really was terrific. See for yourself. Here he is playing Brahms. (Youtube also has a video of him and his trio performing Mendelssohn's trio in D minor, which they played last night, but the sound on the YouTube version is atrocious and I won't link to it.)
