- it's upstairs when I'm downstairs, or
- it's downstairs when I'm upstairs, or
- it's at home when I'm out on my bike, or
- I've got it right next to me . . . but no pen, or
- I've got it and a pen and I write myself a reminder . . . but I still wind up missing my appointment because I don't think to look at the book three days later.
Use a cell phone instead of a pen and paper, that's what.
Let's say I tell John Doe that I'll meet him at the CHO warehouse on Thursday at 11 a.m. All I have to do is phone reQall (*77 on my speed dial) and say to the nice young computerized woman who answers, "Meet John Doe on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the warehouse." She/it saves that message for me several different ways.
- She/It puts the message in a kind of voice mailbox. If I want, I can phone her/it again, say "Recall," and she/it will play back for me all the appointments I recorded -- including "Meet John Doe on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the warehouse." Big deal, right? Any voice mail system will do that.
- Second, she/it knows I probably will not phone her/it and say "Recall" -- Hell, if I could remember to do that, I could remember what I told John Doe -- so she/it also puts my appointment in my online Google Calendar. Anytime I'm sitting at the computer, I can look at my calendar and see that I'm supposed to meet Mr. Doe Thursday morning. Again, big deal. What if I don't think to phone her/it and say "Recall" and I'm not near a computer to check my Google Calendar?
- Third -- most important and Waaay Cool! -- on Thursday morning at 10 a.m., an hour before I'm scheduled to meet Mr. Doe, she/it sends a text message to my cell phone: "Meet John Doe on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the warehouse." How fabulous is that!
Details: reQall is on the web at http://www.reqall.com/; Google Calendar is available to anyone who signs up for gMail. reQall and gMail are both FREE! Adding unlimited text messaging to our Verizon cell phone plan, unfortunately, is not free -- it's $10 per month.)
