If you're still using Internet Explorer, stop now

Yesterday I installed Firefox 3.0.1 and I love it. It's much faster, cleaner, and smarter than version 2.0.x, which is what I had been using. And it's supposed to be much safer (less susceptible to viruses, etc.) than Internet Explorer.

A smart browser? Yep. I don't know how it does it, but if I type "boing boing" in the address field, I'm taken to "http://boingboing.net"; typing "stocks" takes me to "http://finance.yahoo.com"; "maps" takes me to "http://maps.google.com"; and so forth. I've visited each of these sites frequently in the past, so I guess Firefox consults my browsing history in figuring out what to do with, say, "stocks," but I'm still surprised it works so well.

Firefox is free and easy to install. You can get it at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ If you don't like it, you can always uninstall it and go back to Internet Explorer.
