My name is Dan Larkins and I have studied Italian for 6 weeks because my wife and I will go to Europe in 3 weeks -- or less: in 20 days. We will go first to Paris and then to Italy. In Italy, we will stay in Venice, Florence -- or Fiesole, which is near Florence, Perugia (in Umbria), and Rome. In Fiesole, we will visit Florence for 3 days, and for 3 days we will drive to cities near Florence. I have to rent a car, of course. We will drive then to Perugia to visit the cities of Umbria and other cities of Tuscany -- cities like Assisi, Orvieto, Spoletto. And then we will drive to Rome and [get rid of the car] and . . . a week in Rome, and then we will return to the United States. In Paris and Rome, we will stay in apartments. In Venice and Perugia, we will stay in hotels. And in Fiesole, we will stay in a bed and breakfast.

Italian-esque
The point is not to speak the pope's Italian, it's to be able to make myself understood if we happen to come across a patient, sympathetic, listener.
What I tried to say:

I know his italian will be better than mind. Thank goodness he is taking this trip seriously. Now, if he can study some French also.
WOW ......You are good.....Italian sounds a lot like Spanish.....You could have saved yourself a lot time and just come to Fresno for a visit. We speak fluente Spanid here:)
Spanid? You speak "fluente Spanid" in Fresno? I'm not so sure that would help me a lot with l'Italiano. But thanks for the invitation. One of these days, . . . .
