Hi--

I'm new to the group. I joined about a month ago in hopes of getting some information that might help in planning our upcoming trip.

"Our upcoming trip"? Yep. We've got our plane tickets: Arriving in Paris on April 6; departing from Rome on May 4.

God willing, we will spend:
-- 5 nights in Paris -- apartment in the Latin Quarter
-- 3 nights in Venice -- Hotel Bernardi
-- 6 nights in Fiesole -- B&B Le Scalette
-- 7 nights in Perugia -- Best Western Golf Hotel Quattrotorri
-- 7 nights in Rome -- apartment near Re di Roma

(If you have anything good to say about these accomodations, I'd love to hear it.
If you know anything bad, I'd prefer that you keep it to yourself.
I'll let you know what we think of them when we get back.)

We don't yet have: EVERYTHNG ELSE. Especially:

-- transportation from Paris to Venice, Venice to Fiesole, Fiesole to Perugia, and Perugia to Rome. Our thinking at this time is to fly (easyJet) from Paris to Venice, train from Venice to Florence (Fiesole), rent a car after a few days in Fiesole and use it to explore Lucca, Pisa, S. Gimignano, etc., and then drive to Perugia. While there, explore Umbria and southern Tuscany. Then drive to Rome and ditch the car. Does that make sense?

-- ideas on where to eat in any of these places. We didn't have sense enough to do this trip when the dollar was worth something so now we're faced with the prospect of outrageously expensive meals. We'll have very modest cooking facilities in Rome, but aside from that, we'll be eating out. We are not gourmets. Basically, we'd like to be able to get some good simple food; ambiance is definitely secondary.

-- ideas on what to see, other that what's in the guide books. We're especially interested in tips for when we'll have a car in Tuscany and Umbria.

Suggestions welcome.

Oh. I guess I should say a little about who "we" are: A married couple in our 60's living in Virginia, near Washington DC.

Thanks.

Dan
