Too much Latin (and French)

In the past two days, I've come across at least four Latinisms and one "Frenchism" that I wasn't familiar with. To wit:
  • Homo Homini Lupus
  • hostes humani generis
  • Post equitem sedet atra cura
  • delendi sunt
  • Quel dommage
(Capitalization is as it appears on the web sites where I encountered the terms.)

You know what they mean, right?
  • Man is a wolf to man.
  • enemies of the human race
  • Behind the horseman rides black care (some of them don't make any sense even when translated)
  • they must be destroyed
  • What a pity (I should have known this one)
Now that I look at them all together, I'm struck by how somber and pretentious the collection is. I think I have to find a different set of blogs to read.
