While clearing brush on the south 40 last week, my chain saw gave out. I know nothing about machinery, but I thought "what the hell" and I typed "model 107625-01" into Google to see what I would get.
Well, what I got was an exploded view of the parts of my saw -- a view that allowed even me to see what my problem was. So I ordered a "bearing, roller sprocket," a screw, and an e-ring. Total cost $8.80. I should say that was the total without shipping; with shipping, it was twice that much.
The parts arrived in a few days, I installed them today, and -- yippee! -- the saw is almost as good as new. Even with that outrageous shipping charge, it sure beat buying a new saw.
Wait a minute. I just Googled "remington 16-inch chain saw" and found I can get one from Amazon (shipping included) for $59. $19 for a bearing, a screw and an e-ring versus $59 for an entire new saw? I'm not so sure that I got such a great deal after all.
